Hochtief to build laser research center in USA and shopping mall in Germany

Hochtief has secured more new contracts at year-end: US subsidiary Turner is to construct a laser research center worth some EUR 62 million for Stanford University, Palo Alto, CA. In Germany, Hochtief Construction AG is building an approximately EUR 50 million shopping mall at Erlangen for ‘mfi Management für Immobilien AG’, a realty management company.

The contract secured by US subsidiary Turner entails some advanced engineering in the form of a half-mile extension to a laser research tunnel belonging to Stanford University’s Linac Coherent Light Source project. The contract also includes a central office complex for the research facility, including laser laboratories and underground experimental facilities. The researchers will use the new facility to test the movement of and changes in atoms, molecules and materials exposed to laser light. Completion is scheduled for 2008.

The ‘Erlangen Arcaden’ shopping mall is to be built by Hochtief Construction by fall 2007.
