| Teenager is top Barratt apprentice Apprentice joiner Mark Rooksby has proved he’s a cut above the rest – by beating off competition from over 500 Barratt apprentices throughout Britain to win a national award. Mark, 19, is the Barratt Apprentice of the Year and received his award – totalling £1, 500 cash – from Barratt Group Chief Executive David Pretty, who began his own career as a graduate trainee. Barratt is investing more in apprentices and skills training than any other housebuilder, and with 550 apprentices currently receiving training on sites nationwide, has the largest programme in the industry. The youngsters were assessed on all aspects of their work, including attitude, commitment and college results. Mark joined the housebuilder’s Sheffield division three years ago and has worked on developments all over South Yorkshire. He studied at the ARCAT College in Rotherham and is now a qualified joiner. Barratt is planning an increased intake of apprentices this year. All receive paid on-the-job training and undertake college work in recognised vocational skills, supported by the CITB and the Government. write your comments about the article :: © 2005 Construction News :: home page |
