| CABE offers support for tallest tower in the City CABE, the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment, has announced its support for the proposed DIFA tower. The scheme, for a site on Bishopsgate, is the tallest of the current wave of tower proposals that has come forward for the City of London. The DIFA scheme contains office accommodation and lower level retail and restaurant uses in a tower which rises to a height of approximately 300m. CABE welcomes the ‘striking and potentially beautiful' architecture of the tower and the way it relates to the skyline. However, CABE is clear that the highest standards of design and attention to detail are required and must be safeguarded through the planning process. CABE has consistently said that the scheme's public space must make sense in the context of the wider City. As with all major tall building proposals, CABE is calling for public access to the tower. CABE has highlighted several detailed aspects of the architecture which will require further careful consideration. These include details of the wind canopy, which forms the base of the building and partially covers the new square. write your comments about the article :: © 2005 Construction News :: home page |
