| Bechtel continues to provide temporary housing More than 73, 000 Mississippi residents displaced by Hurricane Katrina are now living in 28, 000 emergency housing units installed and readied for occupancy by Bechtel National, Inc. (BNI) under contract to Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Bechtel's work on FEMA's disaster relief efforts is employing nearly 3, 000 people, mostly from Mississippi and other Gulf states. To date, 50 percent of Bechtel's subcontracts have been awarded to firms in Mississippi and 62 percent to firms in the Gulf region.
