| Five world-renowned architectural and design teams to compete for the College Avenue Campus Five of the world’s most accomplished architecture firms are coming to Rutgers University – to compete for the opportunity to carry out President Richard L. McCormick’s vision to transform the historic College Avenue campus into one of the nation’s finest academic environments. The leaders of the five teams are: Beyer Blinder Belle Architects and Planners LLP, New York, a joint venture with Ateliers Jean Nouvel, Paris. Eisenman Architects, New York. Morphosis – Thom Mayne, Santa Monica, Calif. Antoine Predock Architect PC, Albuquerque, N.M. Ten Arquitectos (Enrique Norten), Mexico City. Each finalist will receive a $50, 000 stipend, funded from private donations raised by the Rutgers University Foundation, to prepare conceptual designs for the College Avenue campus. At the core of this multiyear project is the conversion of College Avenue, a city-owned street, into a more welcoming, pedestrian-friendly public space. This conversion would encourage informal interactions among faculty, students, alumni and staff, as well as with neighboring residents. Established in 1766, Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is America’s eighth oldest institution of higher learning and one of the nation’s premier public research universities. write your comments about the article :: © 2005 Construction News :: home page |
