EU helps to develop construction methods of the future

ManuBuild, a European consortium consisting of members from ten countries, is to conduct a four-year research program with the aim of increasing the efficiency of residential construction.

ManuBuild is the largest EU-financed development project ever to focus on the construction sector. The 195 M SEK project shall gradually change the industry so that it moves away from today’s traditional construction methods towards more efficient industrial-type manufacturing. The EU is contributing approximately SEK 94 million and the consortium members will account for the remainder. So budget of NCC, one of the participating companies from Sweden, amounts to SEK 14 million, with the EU grant accounting for SEK 6.3 million.

The member companies represent the leading builders, manufacturers and universities in Europe. ManuBuild will focus on creating inspirational and attractively priced residential properties by means of an efficient process that reduces construction costs, construction time and construction waste.

ManuBuild will implement demonstration projects throughout Europe, including two large apartment blocks in Spain and one in Sweden, as well as a residential and hospital unit in the United Kingdom.
