| 'Wired for Sound' student wins RAIA Lysaght Research Scholarship A post graduate student from Melbourne has won the Royal Australian Institute of Architects (RAIA) inaugural Lysaght Research Scholarship for a project designed to better understand the role sound plays in creating senses of place and dwelling. Announcing the winner of the scholarship in Sydney today, RAIA National President Bob Nation said the $45, 000 scholarship had been awarded to Chelle Macnaughtan, currently a full-time post-graduate research student in the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning at the University of Melbourne. Mr Nation said Chelle would use the prize to expand her research base with a residency at the University of Queens Sonic Arts Research Centre in Belfast, by working in the Canadian city of Toronto, chairing ‘Sound in Architecture Education’ at the Architecture Music Acoustics Conference at Ryerson University, and to mount a solo exhibition of her complete suite of PhD projects at the Span Galleries in Melbourne. The scholarship attracted 36 entries from around Australia, with the four short-listed entrants being Chelle Macnaughtan; Leanne Lizka (Victoria), Brendan Murray (ACT) and Stephen Collier (NSW). write your comments about the article :: © 2005 Construction News :: home page |
