Port Authority To Partner With Academic Institutions

The Port Authority Board of Commissioners authorized agreements with area academic institutions to assist the agency in assessing and developing several regional transportation initiatives identified in the agency’s Vision for the Region 10-year strategic plan. The Board authorized entering into up to four agreements – two with New York and two with New Jersey academic institutions – for up to $600, 000.

The Board action also authorizes the first two of these agreements. One contract, authorized at up to $200, 000, will be with the Rutgers University Center for Advanced Infrastructure and Transportation. A second contract, authorized at up to $150, 000, will be with New York University’s Rudin Center for Transportation Policy and Management. The Rudin Center will study the use of intelligent transportation technologies that mitigate congestion.

The remaining $250, 000 will be divided among a New York institution and a New Jersey intuition for research and analysis in areas such as transit-oriented development opportunities and identifying workforce development needs for the region’s freight transportation industry.
