| Bekaert opens new production unit in Suzhou Bekaert officially opened its new production unit for advanced materials and coatings in Suzhou, China. The inauguration took place in the presence of Ms. Tan Ying, Vice Mayor of Suzhou and of Mr. Yves Leterme, Minister-President and Mrs. Fientje Moerman, Vice-Minister-President of the Flemish Government. The plant, which will provide employment for around 70 employees in the start-up phase, was built in less than six months and took an investment of 200 million Chinese Yuan. Bekaert will develop activities in fibre technologies, combustion technologies, industrial coatings and specialised films in Suzhou. More specifically, Bekaert will make environment-friendly filters for the chemical and aluminium industry there. The plant will also produce infra-red drying systems with high energy efficiency and low emissions for the paper and pulp industry. In addition, they will supply the glass industry with equipment for the production of energy-saving glass. Finally, Bekaert will commercialise window film from Suzhou for energy-saving glass in buildings and vehicles.
