| Dr. Wood honored with MWH Soft award MWH Soft announced that Dr. Don J. Wood, Professor Emeritus at the University of Kentucky and Director of its Civil Engineering Software Center, was recognized with the MWH Soft 2005 Lifetime Achievement Award. Wood was selected in recognition of his eminent lifelong contribution to the water distribution engineering discipline through world-class teaching, practice, and research. The highly coveted award is presented to outstanding engineers and scientists who have exhibited strong technical leadership and significantly advanced the water resources and environmental engineering profession. More importantly, their distinguished achievements have contributed to the protection of public health and the environment, elevating the quality of life for people everywhere. Dr. Wood has made notable contributions to the field of hydraulic engineering and was a pioneer in water distribution systems modeling. He conceived a unique Lagrangian approach that revolutionized hydraulic transient analysis of large and complex water distribution systems as well as the Linear Theory (Flow Adjustment) Method of reliably and accurately solving steady-state pressures and flows in piping systems. In 1985, Wood founded the Civil Engineering Software Center at the University of Kentucky, which has maintained a dominant position in the waterworks industry through its strong record of innovation, value and quality. During his long and extraordinary professional career he has received many prestigious honors, including the ASCE 2004 Simon Freeze Award. write your comments about the article :: © 2005 Construction News :: home page |
