| Cecil Balmond wrote the best book of the year on architecture The winner of the 2005 Banister Fletcher Prize for the best book of the year on architecture is Cecil Balmond’s, Informal (Prestel, 2002). The Banister Fletcher Prize was instituted in 1954 by Sir Banister Fletcher, once president of the Authors' Club and the Royal Institute of British Architects. The prize is presented to the best book of the year on architecture, written by a British author (or an author resident in Britain). A piece of design with its own architecture and structure, Cecil Balmond’s Informal comprises notes, sketches, diary extracts, photographs and CAD drawings. It aims to challenge traditional conceptions of architecture and engineering. Featuring documentation of Balmond’s collaboration with architects Rem Koolhaas, Daniel Libeskind and Alvaro Siza, Balmond describes his book as “a personal journey of evolution and interest”. write your comments about the article :: © 2005 Construction News :: home page |
