| Raising the bar on off-site techniques at Interbuild 2006 Buildoffsite, a new industry wide campaigning organisation, is being officially launched at Interbuild 2006. Its mission at the UK's premier construction exhibition will be to demonstrate to industry leaders, contractors and key companies what the off-site industry can do for construction projects around the globe. Off-site, 'the production of assemblies of components, panels, volumetric units or whole building sections away from the place of installation', made a huge impact at Interbuild 2004 and Buildoffsite recognises that next year's show will be the ideal place for highlighting the continuing growth in that area. Buildoffsite is an alliance of clients, developers, designers, contractors, manufacturers, suppliers and government researchers and advisors who aim to raise the bar on industry performance in the off-site sector. Said chairman Richard Ogden: "Off-site techniques will deliver a more efficient building industry through a greater speed of construction, predictability of time and cost, and a simpler construction process - which results in less disruption. "Off-site techniques also lead to reduced environmental impact, improved health and safety, a reduced reliance on traditional skills and, as volume grows, a lower first price too." Buildoffsite plans to figure prominently at Interbuild 2006, which will be the largest exhibition of off-site technologies ever held in the UK. A series of technical guided tours, to give everyone the chance to get behind the scenes knowledge on all the latest off-site innovations from top industry experts, will also be on offer in the zone. Added Richard: "Interbuild 2006 looks set to provide a major step forward for the off-site industry. With more than 2, 000 square metres of floor space being devoted to it, that section of the show will be twice as big as in 2004. "Off-site did not even exist 10 years ago but now it makes up around four per cent of the industry. We are aiming for a 30 per cent year on year growth which should be easily achievable because off-site is already the single fastest growing element of the construction industry."
