| Carbide cutters for tough holemaking applications Hougen Manufacturing, North America's leading producer of portable holemaking equipment including its 15 models of lightweight portable magnetic drills, along with a full lineup of Rotabroach® hole cutting tools, has unveiled a new series of annular tools... Copperhead™ Annular Carbide Tip Cutters. Available in sizes from 9/16" to 1-½" diameter, and for holemaking to 2" depth of cut, the Copperhead tools feature carbide tip cutting edges brazed onto a steel body, providing greater wear resistance and more holes-per-tool productivity in tough drilling applications involving high Brinnell hardness alloys or abrasive cast irons. The Copperhead tools feature a dual flat shank and are designed for use in Hougen's portable magnetic drills or, with a spindle adapter, may be employed in stationary drill presses, lathes and machining centers. The tools are resharpenable to provide even longer service life and each tool undergoes a special surface treatment, which gives them a distinct color and, consequently, the Copperhead designation. Because this type of cutter is hollow (there's no 'dead zone' center point as with twist or spade drills), the Rotabroach style cutters can produce holes 2 to 3 times faster than conventional drills, and will typically require less horsepower and torque than traditional holemaking tools, thus lightweight portable drills and small-powered equipment can drill larger diameter holes. write your comments about the article :: © 2005 Construction News :: home page |
