Spectralink appoints new DECT Director of Engineering

Torben Laursen to spearhead newly strengthened engineering team

Horsens, Denmark – 05 September, 2018 – Spectralink Corporation, the global leader in enterprise mobility solutions for the healthcare, retail, manufacturing and hospitality industries, today announced the appointment of Torben Laursen to spearhead DECT Engineering.

Torben will be responsible for the full scope of DECT engineering activities including planning and execution of software development, manufacturing support, escalation support, hardware development, and technical documentation. Torben joins the company as part of a significant investment in its DECT portfolio.

DECT telecommunications remains a stable market with 1.5 million devices sold within the enterprise environment on average each year, led by countries including Germany, France, Netherlands and the UK[1]. Spectralink Europe, formerly Kirk Telecom has increased its DECT engineering workforce in Denmark by over 30%, to enable rapid development and market introduction of new DECT technology innovations. The company is also expanding its European salesforce accordingly.

This is the latest in a number of commitments to DECT solutions from the company that this year launched both the 7520 handset and IP-DECT 200 Server. The 7520 handset and the single-cell IP-DECT 200 server offer an affordable, user-friendly, voice centric solution with enhanced security features, typical of the Spectralink DECT portfolio, that maximizes employee communications and productivity.

The Spectralink DECT investment program has been welcomed by the company’s global network of resellers, software developers, systems integrators, major PBX and IP-PBX providers, hosted collaboration system and Unified Communications (UC) providers, from smaller specialists to giants such as Cisco and Microsoft. All who recognize the importance for customer enterprises to be able to choose objectively between DECT or Wi-Fi platforms depending on the precise needs of their mobile workforces.

After working with global high-tech companies like Nokia, Sonos and most recently as R&D manager for Xylem Inc. in software and hardware development, Torben, who is also an auditor for ISO 9001, is delighted to be joining the company and comments: “I am thrilled to join a company with such a strong legacy in DECT advancement deriving from its days as Kirk to the current innovation Spectralink is introducing today.
