Speakers announced for the Dynamic Spectrum Alliance Global Summit 2018 as Europe prepares for 5G trials

Speakers confirmed from the UK Ministry of Defence, International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and Whitespace UK

London, UK, 19 February 2018: As a plethora of 5G network trials are being announced across Europe, the Dynamic Spectrum Alliance (DSA) has released the preliminary agenda and speakers list for its Sixth Annual Global Summit (May 1-3, 2018). Held in Europe for the first time since its inception, the Summit will explore a range of topics from universal affordable connectivity to 6GHz for broadband services, and millimetre wave bands.

The Global Summit agenda will feature high-profile speakers, including recent announcements:
• Lisa Roper, Head of Spectrum Sales, UK Ministry of Defence
• Mario Mankiewicz, Deputy Director, Radiocommunication Bureau, International Telecommunication Union (ITU)
• Dr. William Webb, CEO, Weightless SIG
• Mark Wheeler, Director and Founder, Whitespace UK
• Preston Marshall, Principle Wireless Architecture, Google
• Chris Weasler, Director of Global Connectivity, Facebook
• Frank McCosker, General Manager Affordable Access and Smart Financing, 4Afrika - Microsoft

Debates on the challenges with the current spectrum approach and whether technology is the best manager of spectrum will come from key industry figures who are leading innovations in spectrum management across the world, including speakers representing ATDI, Broadway Partners, C3, Mimosa and Ruckus Networks.

“Ruckus Networks is excited to see the DSA Global Summit being held in London this May, ” said Dave Wright, Director of Regulatory Affairs and Network Standards at Ruckus Networks. “It’s excellent timing given the recent developments and discussions around both license exempt and license by rule regimes in the EU, the imminent launch of CBRS in the US, and the broad discussions of how to meet the investment and densification challenges of 5G. We look forward to addressing some of these items and hearing from the other government and industry leaders who will be participating.”

DSA President, Kalpak Gude, who will provide a keynote address at the Summit, commented: “5G will require significantly more spectrum for broadband than is currently available. The only realistic way to achieve this is by using dynamic access, which enables an efficient use of spectrum through spectrum sharing, allowing for both licensed and unlicensed opportunities. The Summit will explore how various spectrum sharing regulatory regimes across a variety of complementary spectrum bands can be coordinated to lower the cost of broadband to allow 5G and Internet of Things deployments across the globe and connect the remaining 4 billion to the digital economy.”

The Global Summit is shaped to be the premier event for policy makers, regulators, academia and private sector leaders. It will be held May 1-3, 2018 at Hilton London Wembley. To register, please visit http://dynamicspectrumalliance.org/global-summit/.
