SSE Enterprise Telecoms appoints three new directors to join its leadership team to fulfil ambitious growth plan

Industry experts Ian Taylor, Pinder Kang and John Chester bring almost 60 years of collective experience to leading connectivity provider

LONDON, UK – 30 January 2018 – SSE Enterprise Telecoms – one of the UK’s leading connectivity suppliers, and part of SSE plc – today announces three key additions to its Business Development and Commercial divisions as part of the company’s bid to double its size in the next five years.

The announcement sees Ian Taylor join as Business Development Director, Pinder Kang join as Sector Director of Network Operators and John Chester join as Commercial Director. The appointments come during a strong period of growth for SSE Enterprise Telecoms – capital expenditure has increased 154 per cent in the last three years, resulting in a significant expansion of SSE Enterprise Telecoms’ network bringing the total number of connected commercial data centres to 80 with ongoing plans to unbundle further exchanges by exploring innovative ways to deliver high capacity connectivity across the UK.

As Business Development Director, Ian Taylor is responsible for driving increased market awareness and sales across the business to deliver the ambitious growth targets in the company’s target sectors. Ian has extensive experience within the telecoms sector from working with BT and Cable & Wireless, as well as in a variety of senior commercial roles with Siemens, ultimately where he headed up an expansive IT outsourcing operation.

Commenting on his appointment Ian added: “Being nimble and quick-to-market is SSE Enterprise Telecoms’ greatest advantage, it has a great balance of scale and agility, but with the energy and mentality of a start-up. SSE Enterprise Telecoms is known for giving some of the industry’s highest levels of resilience and service, and for customers in our key verticals, that’s vital. It’s my mission to ensure our business delivers on this, efficiently”.

Pinder Kang is appointed Sector Director for Network Operators. Prior to SSE Enterprise Telecoms, he worked for four of the top six tier one contractors in the UK, with notable periods at Balfour Beatty, Amey and Galliford Try. Not to mention overseas experience in Qatar working on the infrastructure transformation of the country on projects such as Doha Metro, Lusail Smart City and securing three of the FIFA 2022 Stadium Projects for a Qatar based Architectural Practice. Pinder’s background in securing, mobilising and delivering major infrastructure programmes is pivotal for SSE Enterprise Telecoms, as Governmental policy around 5G becomes a major talking point in 2018. This comes at a time when 5G standards and legislation are being agreed rapidly, and new fibre builds are taking place to satisfy eventual needs. It is in this space that SSE Enterprise Telecoms can drive real change to the way network operators construct, operate and expand their networks. Committed to driving profitable opportunities that fuel innovative connectivity, like SSE Enterprise Telecoms’ recent partnership laying high-speed fibre in London sewers, and working closely with Network Operators, this appointment cements the company’s commitment to serving customers with high-speed, high quality connectivity.

As Commercial Director, John Chester is tasked with ensuring SSE Enterprise Telecoms continues to build on its reputation of service excellence, securing SSE Enterprise Telecoms’ position as the networking provider of choice. John’s key vision is to drive SSE Enterprise Telecoms’ exploration of new and innovative routes to expand reach, services and its customer base to continue to grow sustainably in a highly competitive market. A qualified Chartered Management Accountant, John joins following a 20-year senior commercial career at several private equity and PLC businesses spanning infrastructure investments, IT managed services, outsourced services and engineering where he focused on major commercial bids. No stranger to sustainable growth, John helped to fuel the growth of a private equity backed company from £18M to double the size in two years.

Colin Sempill, Managing Director at SSE Enterprise Telecoms explains why the addition of these three senior hires is a significant moment for the company: “We’re an ambitious company with ambitious growth plans and we need people who will help to accelerate our growth. The next couple of years will be focused on the innovation we bring to deals and partnerships both commercially and from a technology standpoint. This will include looking to new ways of collaborating and risk-sharing to build on our already strong network. These latest appointments will drive the streamlining of our processes and provision for our growth, which is key when it comes to delivering first-class customer experience at scale”.
