DataDirect Technologies announces the availability of its DataDirect Connect for JDBC database drivers version 4.0. The latest release of the JDBC drivers includes important new features and developer productivity capabilities with full support for the JDBC 4.0 specification, flexible application failover and new database feature support.

DataDirect Technologies' data connectivity components provide standards-based data access to all major databases including Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, DB2, Sybase, Informix and MySQL. Software architects at independent software vendors (ISVs) and in corporate IT departments worldwide use the DataDirect Connect for JDBC drivers to build high performance, database-independent applications on a common architecture.

DataDirect Connect for JDBC version 4.0 is now JDBC 4.0 compliant and also supports the optional JDBC 4.0 features including support for the SQLXML data type and the enterprise runtime features of JDBC 4.0 including extended diagnostics and caching enhancements. With complete JDBC 4.0 compliancy, DataDirect drivers leverage the latest ease-of-use design features and allow developers to take advantage of new functionality that will lead to superior application performance and reliability.

Well established, development-level relationships with all leading database and platform vendors ensures DataDirect Technologies' products are always feature rich and current with the latest database versions and releases. DataDirect Connect for JDBC version 4.0 supports many of the new features found in IBM DB2 v. 9.5 and Oracle 11g database releases including database compression, transparent data encryption, server side result-set caching and XQuery update expressions.

In addition to new features for improved application capability and developer productivity, DataDirect Connect for JDBC version 4.0 includes application runtime enhancements. Flexible application failover is automatically implemented by the DataDirect Connect for JDBC driver, enabling users to choose the level of failover to be deployed for improved application uptime. This can range from simple connection failover to failover support for select based statement.
