OpenClovis Launches Version 3.0 of Its Carrier-Grade Middleware

OpenClovis has launched the latest release of its carrier-grade middleware (CGM) version 3.0, a complete off-the-shelf, standards-aligned manageability and high-availability software solution. Operating system and platform agnostic, OpenClovis CGM version 3.0 is pre-validated for various distributions of Linux as well as leading hardware platforms such as SUN Netra ATCA, Radisys ATCA, HP ATCA, IBM BladeCenter T and WindRiver PNELE. Additionally, OpenClovis offers the most comprehensive and native implementation of Service Availability Forum's Application Interface Specification with the Hardware Platform Interface.

The OpenClovis CGM is suitable for a wide range of carrier grade network elements and can be used in a variety of environments, including broadband access devices for technologies such as DSL, PON, 3G/WiMAX, to metro Ethernet and edge switches/routers, to IPTV application servers and IMS core elements. The scalable solution offers reusable, portable software components that reduce development costs and facilitate the creation of portable designs that can be quickly customized for any standards-compliant platform. The solution's modular architecture enables designers to use only the necessary components, ensuring optimal performance by minimizing the platform's software footprint.

OpenClovis's dual licensing model enables users to choose the license that best fits their needs. Users can choose to use OpenClovis CGM 3.0 under the free software/open source GNU General Public License version 2, which provides access to the full source code and the ability to leverage the open source community, or a commercial license under which they benefit from various levels of support and IPR protection.

OpenClovis CGM release 3.0 includes important new features, including:
- Support of industry-standard TIPC for performance improvements.
- Fast IPC message processing — up to 200k messages per second for a 64 byte payload.
- Added SAForum AIS B.02 compliance with IMMR alignment, N+M redundancy model, etc.
- True hot-stand capability with fault detection and failover capabilities within a few milliseconds.
- Generalized software group membership extending SAF CLM.
- New system management features for bulk provisioning and SNMP subagent code generation.
- Intelligent memory management.
- Support for binary log streams with online and offline log viewers.
- A full pre-integrated SAF HA reference application based on a popular open source application, enabled by OpenClovis CGM.

OpenClovis also offers OpenClovis IDE, an integrated development tool kit that accelerates the development of carrier-grade application software on the OpenClovis platform. Coupled with the OpenClovis platform, OpenClovis IDE streamlines the process of specifying the information model, high availability model, and the communication infrastructure of a system. OpenClovis IDE offers full development lifecycle workflow support, tool integration via XML files, enhanced MIB import capabilities and usability improvements such as SNMP code and application interface code auto-generation, project model templates. Complex SAF application models can be easily specified via GUI interface using OpenClovis IDE.

OpenClovis IDE enables designers to capture the system information model through UML notations, and saves it as well defined XML files. Developers can choose to work directly with the familiar APIs, or they can use the drag-and-drop user interface for a more intuitive user experience. This dual approach accelerates the learning curve, reducing development time and enhancing user accuracy. OpenClovis IDE lets developers generate and compile code, then deploy the resulting image onto the target system under development, allowing for more efficient collaboration during the design cycle.

OpenClovis offers a comprehensive and native implementation of SAF AIS support. The platform supports B.02 compliance such as IMMR, with full support for SAF modeling and API generation within the OpenClovis IDE. Version 3.0 also offers hot standby capabilities, with an N+M redundancy model and support for software group membership, to take a platform's HA capabilities to the next level.

The OpenClovis Release 3.0 early access version has also been evaluated and tested by a number of potential customers. OpenClovis expects to announce more major design wins by the year's end.
