New enterprise wireless LAN capabilities

Extricom announced the expansion of its wireless switch family, as well as the release of new major capabilities for the Extricom Wireless LAN System. The new functionality includes any band-any mode dual-channel operation, TrueReuse channel capacity multiplication, and voice over Wi-Fi capacity enhancements.

The new EXSW-2400 Wireless Switch is a central component of Extricom's patented Interference-Free WLAN system, a unique architecture that creates extended zones of coverage for every available channel, by using each channel at every access point that is controlled by the switch, without incurring the co-channel interference that otherwise plagues traditional WLAN systems.

This dramatically simplifies deployment of WLAN, while allowing access points to be placed in any desired density, so as to maximize bandwidth and coverage, and deliver the seamless, zero-latency mobility required by applications such as streaming data, voice over Wi-Fi, and client-based VPN security. The EXSW-2400 networks twenty-four high-bandwidth, Extricom UltraThin Access Points to create large service zones that are ideal for covering wide areas such as multiple hospital floors, large warehouses, and entire schools.

The newly announced major system capabilities include:

- Any Band, Any Mode Dual-Channel Operation. Extricom extends the flexibility of the dual-radio UltraThin Access Points, enabling them to operate in any combination of band and Wi-Fi channel mode. For example, access points can be configured to concurrently run on two channels in the 2.4 GHz band, using 802.11b mode on one channel and 802.11g on the other. This capability is invaluable for businesses that wish to segregate different traffic and user types onto different channels, thereby solving the long-standing tug-of-war between "b" and "g" clients, voice and data, and user roles such as guests and employees. Such segregation capability is achieved without loss of coverage or capacity, and provides the system with inherent Quality of Service (QoS), without the need for clients and infrastructure to support the 802.11e QoS standard.

- TrueReuse. The EXSW-2400 is the first platform to support Extricom's patented TrueReuse channel processing technology, enabling the aggregate bandwidth of a standard Wi-Fi channel to be multiplied by up to three times.

- Enhanced Wi-Fi Voice. Through highly efficient control of the Wi-Fi channel, the Extricom system is able to double the industry's average number of concurrent G.711 voice calls per channel. Coupled with Extricom's unique zero-latency mobility and link robustness, the prospect of voice over WLAN is now reality.
