New M2M industrial communications terminal

Developed by eDevice, eDindus is a communications terminal for connecting industrial equipment to the Internet over GPRS, PSTN (V90 ISP) and Ethernet networks. Thanks to its unique features, low cost, DIN rail mounting, wide range of electric power supplies and usability, eDindus is quickly and easily integrated into any industrial environment.

This M2M industrial terminal handles all the communication protocols necessary to transfer information on a TCP/IP network and includes an FTP client, an e-mail client, and a web server. The server is entirely customizable and the terminal's software development kit (SDK) allows scripts to be created and embedded in an interpreted language.

A 16-bit ATMega microprocessor manages the modbus protocol and also allows specific C-coded client modules to be embedded in the terminal. eDindus can be connected to any equipment through a wide range of hardware interfaces: RS232, RS422, RS485, analogue and digital input/output, dry switch, etc.

The terminal may be used, for example, to connect an industrial programmable logic controller (PLC) and transport commands to enable periodic remote maintenance or to relay alarms. The M2M terminals may be optionally interfaced with the M2M middleware IDeMS (hosted on the Internet), which handles archiving, analysis, and transmission of data for full pools of equipment. Together with today's availability of GRPS and PSTN subscriptions, the eDindus terminal offers companies wishing to start an M2M implementation for their equipment an end-to-end turnkey solution.
