RoHS transceivers for the wireless industry

Endwave announced the delivery of their first transceiver designed to be fully compliant with the new environmental Restriction on Hazardous Substances Directive 2002/95/EC (the "RoHS Directive"). According to the RoHS Directive, member states of the European Union (EU) are obligated to ensure that, from July 1, 2006, new electrical and electronic equipment put on the market contains minimal levels of lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) or polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE).

Endwave's first RoHS-compliant commercial product delivery was an integrated transceiver for Nokia's FlexiHopper and FlexiHopper Plus microwave radios. Endwave has been working towards the transition of all applicable telecommunications products to full RoHS Directive compliance, with this first qualification approval well ahead of the July 1, 2006 statutory deadline. Equipment used for military and national security applications are currently exempt from RoHS Directive requirements.
