| Teksouth Introduces EntelliCache Teksouth announced the introduction of EntelliCache, a new software tool that places the power of rapid insight discovery in the hands of workers at all levels of an enterprise, giving them the information they need to do their jobs more effectively in less time. The announcement was made at the annual conference of the Data Warehousing Institute, being held here in Las Vegas, where Teksouth is a participating exhibitor. EntelliCache is designed to improve ad hoc query performance an enterprise data warehouse. This allows to search the data exactly as they want, rather than having to depend on more conventional pre-formed queries. It does this by using a Teksouth-designed system to route approximately 80 percent of all queries to data caches, where information can be retrieved far more quickly than by searching traditional data repositories like star schemas. EntelliCache also allows the cached data to be stored across multiple databases residing on standard hardware, thus reducing companies' costs, and increasing their return on investment. "As operational business intelligence increasingly moves into the mainstream, vendors are facing the challenge of providing their end users with the ability to more rapidly obtain actionable information from their data," said Dan Vesset, research director at International Data Corporation. "Moreover, the users are demanding the ability to query the data on their own terms, and not merely to rely to what someone else thinks they should be asking. EntelliCache appears ready to meet that specific challenge, with technology that should enable workers to get the answers they need in a fraction of the time than is currently required, enabling them to do their jobs and respond to customer needs more effectively." "Teksouth's EntelliCache software takes an innovative approach to solve a growing challenge among BI vendors: how to speed the delivery of analytical data," said Kathy Quirk, research manager at Nucleus Research. "As companies increase the number of users on BI systems, and the volume of data that moves through these systems, this can result in unacceptable response times. EntelliCache's ability to deliver a fast response rate, even as the number of end users increases, is something that both customers and vendors should evaluate for use within their business intelligence implementations," she added. EntelliCache is designed for rapid implementation, and functions transparently. The result is that workers can design questions to address their specific needs, and get the answers in as little as one-tenth the time needed with standalone data warehouse querying tools, without having to manipulate cumbersome or complicated software. "Companies need workers who can make the decisions that keep them ahead in business, and those workers need insight based on solid information," said Brad Marshall, Teksouth's director of commercial products. "They can't afford the traditional ways of searching for data that can take minutes, hours or longer to find. The speed and rapid response that EntelliCache delivers moves the concept of 'business intelligence for the masses' one huge step forward." EntelliCache leverages an architecture initially designed for the U.S. Department of Defense. Its track record includes proven performance in a data warehouse routinely accessed by more than 13, 000 users worldwide; more than 60 percent of all ad hoc queries had answers returned in less than three seconds, with more than 80 percent of answers returned within 10 seconds. In fact, benchmarking tests recently performed at Teksouth's research labs measured response times of an EntelliCache-enabled business intelligence suite, versus a similar suite running without EntelliCache. The tests were performed against a third normal form TPC-H database; the largest table contained 150 million rows. On average, EntelliCache-powered queries were answered within five seconds, compared to one minute without EntelliCache ... a decrease of more than 90 percent. EntelliCache is compatible with many of today's leading business intelligence tools, including Cognos ReportNet and Microsoft Reporting Services. It works with all industry-standard relational databases, including Teradata, Oracle, SQL Server, DB2 and MySQL.
