Applied Identity joins Network Admission Control

Applied Identity announced that it has joined the Network Admission Control (NAC) program, a Cisco-led industry initiative. Network Admission Control is a set of technologies and solutions that uses the network infrastructure to enforce security policy compliance on all devices seeking to access network computing resources, thereby limiting damage from emerging security threats. NAC supports the Self Defending Network, Cisco's strategy to protect an organization's business processes by identifying, preventing and adapting to threats from both internal and external sources.
Applied Identity will utilize the Cisco Trust Agent and other NAC technologies for integration into its Identiforce() appliances. As a result, Identiforce customers will have greater and more cost-effective control over user access to their Cisco NAC-enabled networks with better defenses against a range of threats, including non-compliant users, insecure devices, malicious attacks, system intrusion and malware.
"Collaboration with vendors like Applied Identity enhances the NAC program and helps bring about an integrated approach to endpoint security, " said Russell Rice, director of product marketing in the Security Technology Group at Cisco Systems. "Applied Identity's products enforce user validation right in the network, so they will be an important addition to NAC's core functionality."
For organizations struggling to balance the demand for open networks while contending with complex regulatory requirements and security issues, Applied Identity's products expand the traditional sign-on approach and add powerful, irrefutable enforcement and audit capabilities. Taking advantage of existing directory and network access control infrastructure, Applied Identity enables more control at lower cost.
"Cisco's core and perimeter security solutions are in lock step with our desire to enforce and protect user privileges directly in the fabric of the network, " said Dean Weber, chief security architect for Applied Identity. "Identiforce enhances Cisco's technology by delivering user-specific identification and tracking throughout the network."
