Remote power management for carrier networks

MRV COMMUNICATIONS, INC., a leading provider of products and services for out-of-band networking, WDM and optical transport, metro Ethernet, fiber optic components, 10GE and other service aware networking products, today announced the 4800 Power Control Series. These new -48 VDC additions to MRV's out-of-band networking product family offer carriers and utilities an intelligent power distribution and remote power control solution to maximize operational uptime.

"The new 4800 Power Control Series supports our ongoing commitment to develop innovative, cost-effective solutions for carriers, and utilities where the economic and business consequences of operational downtime require a management solution that is always accessible, " said Mary Jane Gruninger, general manager of MRV's Out-of-Band networking division.

Easy-to-Manage, Secure Remote Network Operations

All 4800 Power Control Series models feature out-of-band connectivity that allows administrators to remotely power-on, power-off or reboot attached equipment. Accessed through MRV's LX Series Secure console servers, enhanced LX Series security capabilities include SSH V2SSHv2 Secure Shell secure remote terminal, SNMP V3, Radius, SecurID, TACACS+ and compliance with the FIPS 140 federal standard for products supporting encryption.

To support redundant power supply routers and switches, each 4800 Power Control Series model has dual 100-amp power inputs. Each 4800 Series model also features interchangeable fuses that allow administrators to replace fuse values to change the amperage rating of each outlet circuit. Secure local and remote configuration and control is managed through the LX Series Console Server, with an easy-to-use browser-based GUI, extensive command line interface, or MRV's SNMP-based Megavision management software. All 4800 Series models are NEBS compliant.

"These new products expand MRV's power management product line from the enterprise to the service provider market and allow us to propose turnkey out-of-band management system to our customers, " said Sean MacNeill, president and COO of Dynavar, one of North America's leading system integrators and an MRV partner.

Configurations Offer Maximum Scalability

The 4800 Power Control Series is comprised of three versions of remote power management models:

* The 4805-XLS Remote Power Manager is designed for CLECs, ILECs, ISPs and utilities to manage -48 VDC power control to equipment cabinets in remote sites, co-location facilities and network operations centers. The console features 16 10-amp outlet circuits protected with GMT fuses.

* The 4805/35-XLS is ideal for power distribution and remote management for cabinets with both -48 VDC-powered servers and high-amperage routers. It features eight 10-amp outlet circuits protected with GMT fuses, and four 70-amp maximum outlet circuits protected with TPC fuses.

* The 4870-XLS is aimed at applications requiring high amperage protection needs, providing four 70-amp outlet circuits protected with TPC fuses.

Complete Out-of-Band Networking Solution

MRV Out-of-Band Networking product family comprises a full suite of out-of-band management products enabling customers to proactively respond to all remote control, configuration, sensor, and data acquisition needs. The 4800 Series joins MRV Communications' 5150 Power Control Series, which offers remote AC power management for enterprise data centers.
