Airgo rakes in awards for True MIMO technology

Airgo Networks, Inc., pioneer and world leader in high performance wireless technology, has announced that its True MIMO chipset has been recognized for demonstrated excellence in technological advancement by five prestigious organizations -- International CES, Light Reading, PC World, Popular Science and The Wall Street Journal. Airgo's True MIMO chipsets currently power more than 1.5 million wireless devices from leading vendors such as NETGEAR, Linksys, Buffalo and Belkin.

Airgo was named an International CES Innovations 2006 Design and Engineering Award honoree in the Software and Embedded Technologies category for its faster-than-wired True MIMO Gen3 chipset. Launched in September 2005, Airgo's third generation chipset is currently available in NETGEAR's RangeMax 240 and Linksys' WRT54GX4/WPC54GX4 wireless product lines. CES Innovations honorees are recognized for superior design and engineering among the most technologically advanced products of the year, in a wide range of 30 consumer electronics categories.

Airgo also received Light Reading's 2005 Leading Lights Award in the Best New Service, Private Company category, and PC World's 2006 Innovations Award for its True MIMO Gen3 chipset. The company was a runner-up in The Wall Street Journal's Second Global Technology Awards, in the wireless category. Light Reading received more than 300 awards nominations in all, and the winners were selected by a panel of 20 Light Reading editors and analysts. PC World took the unusual step of bestowing the Innovations Award on a component maker rather than on the traditional product in recognition of Airgo's pioneering role in the development of MIMO. The Wall Street Journal received about 750 applications from two dozen countries.

Additionally, Airgo and its customer Belkin received Popular Science's 2005 Best of What's New Award in the Computing category for Belkin's True MIMO-based wireless router.

"It is a great honor to be recognized by so many high-profile organizations for our True MIMO technology, especially at a time when the industry is poised to pass the first draft IEEE 802.11n industry interoperability standard that is based on Airgo's core technology, " said Greg Raleigh, Airgo president and CEO. "Such universal acknowledgment validates Airgo's pioneering progress in advancing wireless performance and quality to form the foundation of the digital home and office. We are committed to the development of innovative wireless technologies that enable applications such as faster-than-Ethernet computer networking, streaming HDTV, music, high performance video gaming and voice calls. We are also looking forward to the point in time when the Wi-Fi Alliance certifies IEEE 802.11n MIMO interoperability as a means of bringing further benefit to consumers."

Airgo's third generation True MIMO chipset supports data rates up to 240Mbps, and for the first time enables consumers to experience faster-than-wired speeds over a wireless network, which is almost three times the speed of other wireless technologies on the market today. The Gen3 chipset provides the speed and reliability necessary to enable content, such as media-rich Internet, large files, video, IPTV, music, photos and games, to be distributed across a wireless network without compromises in performance while remaining 100% compatible with 802.11b, g and a Wi-Fi. Offering faster connection speeds than 10/100 Ethernet, it eliminates the need for unsightly and inflexible wired connections between devices in the home, such as routers, laptops, PCs, set-top boxes, consoles and TVs. For enterprises, Airgo's third generation technology finally makes the wire-free office a reality.
