Nicholas Merz | "Midnight Movement"

Nicholas Merz unveils Music Video for new single "Midnight Movement". His second album "God Won't Save You, But I will" will be released on October 9, 2020 via Aagoo Records. It features musician Cory Hanson (Wand).

Dear all,

American artist Nicholas Merz will release his second album "God Won't Save You, But I will" on October 9, 2020 via New Jersey label Aagoo Records in CD/LP and all Digital Formats. He is releasing today a new music video directed by Michael T Workman for his song "Midnight Movement".

ABOUT THE VIDEO
Michael and I spoke about the concept of the video Midnight Movement at length. We both come from working class, small town backgrounds and he wanted to drop us back into that world for this video. As we were shooting the experience went beyond the video. It felt as if I were being pulled into an a mirrored reality where the archetypes and isolated focus of rural living once again dictated a deep set of emotional responses I was not prepared to greet. It was an eye opening experience and one that I will likely never forget. This also cemented my friendship with Michael Workman and Julia Sherman. I'm a very lucky person to have the opportunity to work with such genuine people.
— Nicholas Merz

ABOUT THE ALBUM
In the early stages of writing this album, it became very clear that recording it live was a necessary equation even at its inception. Lyrically, the album circles around the theme of letting go, and thus it made perfect sense to allow the material to be loose by nature and a response to its limitations. The album was written roughly between May-Sept '18, the songs were sparsely demoed and given to the band in September, and the band came together two days before tracking to rehearse. It was recorded in a home of a friend in Landers, CA outside of Joshua Tree over two days. It was recorded entirely live, even vocals with zero overdubs.

The band consisted of Nicholas Merz (guitar/vocals), Cory Hanson (guitar), Candace Harter (keys), Evan Backer (drums), Adrienne Humblet (bass), and Robbie Cody (engineer/producer).
