CeCe Gable, Harvie S, Roni Ben-Hur,Sylvia Cuenca and Brian Landrus

On their third project together, CeCe is in good company with the inimitable bassist/producer, Harvie S, who has co-authored all arrangements with the magnificent guitarist, Roni Ben-Hur. Also on this album is the drummer – percussion colorist really – Sylvia Cuenca, and the prodigiously gifted baritone saxophonist/bass clarinetist, Brian Landrus, who helps hold up the bottom register of the music with gravitas.

CeCe Gable has created her fourth CD, More Than A Song, which includes nine American standards and one song from Brazil. This compilation, while impressive in its sum, is artfully comprised of ten ineffably beautiful miniatures. Each song is not so much sung as it is rendered from her heart; each infused with an intimacy and emotional intensity that can only be described as the poetry of feeling.

CeCe has not simply practiced the art of vocal music but she has found her way into its secrets. This and the deepest knowledge and understanding of music has raised the level of her craftsmanship to a rarified realm. How appropriate then for her to reach a stage when music is – as the title of the recording suggests – “More Than A Song.”

The music begins with the angular harmonics of East of the Sun and makes its flawless way through As Long As I Live and Love is a Necessary Evil, soaring through a spectacular version of What is This Thing Called Love, and reaching the grand finale with an extraordinary rendition of Detour Ahead. Throughout, CeCe shows herself to be an artist of the first order. Her instrument is lustrous, mellifluous, and gorgeous.

When you listen to the songs, you get a feeling that nothing is overly planned about this date. What CeCe has delivered are authentic first takes. Each song has spoken to her and she has transformed them into music of real depth and feeling – traveling through a wide range of moods – while at the same time exploring the boundaries of the technically possible and the harmonically acceptable.

Each musician is attuned to CeCe’s artistry and vision with this music, playing It all with scintillating virtuosity and eloquence and, when combined with the vocals of CeCe Gable, make this album a timeless treasure.
