June 16th Gary Lucas will devote his streaming concert to examining the legacy of American visionary artist Don Van Vliet (Captain Beefheart), on the occasion of the 51st anniversary of the release of Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band's magnum opus “Trout Mask Replica”, which has been cited over many years one of the Best Albums of All Time in numerous polls (Lucas was a featured soloist and a member of the last edition of Van Vliet’s Magic Band).. Gary was just asked to contribute guitar to a new version of the song “Hobo Chang Ba” from “Trout Mask Replica”, performed by disadvantaged Afghan children in Kabul who have been working closely with Gary’s friend guitarist Lanny Cordola, who's set up several Music Education Programs in Afghanistan: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f7UXosQPPf4 On Sept. 11th, Knitting Factory Records will release “The Essential Gary Lucas”, a double CD compilation spanning 40 years of music-making.
