2020 JJA Jazz Awards Winners Live-Stream Party

The Jazz Journalists Association celebrates excellence in jazz and jazz journalism online on Thursday, June 18 at 8 pm ET, with a first-of-its-kind, all-star 2020 JJA Jazz Awards Winners Live-Stream Party, webcast live, free of charge, on Hot House Global and the JJA's Facebook page.

Honorees from the 24th annual JJA Jazz Awards will interact live, addressing each other, taking questions, observing musical interludes and comments from past Jazz Awards galas by Randy Weston, Sheila Jordan and Sonny Rollins, among others.
Confirmed participants to date include Carla Bley (Lifetime Achievement in Jazz recipient) and Stanley Crouch (Lifetime Achievement in Jazz Journalism), providing pre-recorded remarks; Lakecia Benjamin (Up and Coming Musician of the Year), Terri Lynne Carrington (Musician of the Year and Drummer of the Year), Nate Chinen (for his personal writing, and the WBGO blog), Kris Davis (Composer of the Year and Pianist of the Year), Male Vocalist of the Year Kurt Elling, Female Vocalist of the Year Cécile McLorin Salvant, Percussionist of the Year Zakir Hussain, and Roscoe Mitchell representing the Art Ensemble of Chicago 50th Anniversary Large Ensemble.

Bassist Linda May Han Oh, JazzTimes editor Mac Randall, cellist Tomeka Reid, vibist Joel Ross, author Mark Stryker, alto saxophonist-arranger Miguel Zenón. soprano saxophonist Jane Ira Bloom, clarinetist Anat Cohen, guitarist Bill Frisell, trombonist Wycliffe Gordon, multi-reeds player Joe Lovano, flutist Nicole Mitchell and JJA president Howard Mandel will also speak on the call.

The 2020 Winners, as well as 2020 JJA Jazz Heroes and current JJA members are invited to participate on a live-streaming call, which the general public may watch as it happens on Hot House Global, a Twitch.tv channel, or the JJA's own Facebook cast. A video of the Live-Stream event will be archived at YouTube.

The Jazz Journalists Association is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit membership organization for writers, editors, photographers, broadcasters, videographers and other media professionals sustaining news and views of jazz across all media platforms. First held in conjunction with the Knitting Factory in 1997, the Jazz Awards have been held at New York City venues including Alice Tully Hall of Lincoln Center, Birdland, B.B. King's Blues Club, the Blue Note Jazz Club, City Winery, the Jazz Standard and the New School. The 2020 JJA Jazz Awards Winners' Live-Stream Party is a JJA fundraiser, and will accept tax-deductible donations at the JJA's public website JJANews.org and its "office" site Members.JazzJournalists.org. Hot House Global, a non-profit center for international performance and exhibition, will also accept donations.
