Flushing Town Hall Presents the Andrea Brachfeld Jazz Quartet on October 12 On Friday, October 12, Flushing Town Hall presents the Andrea Brachfeld Jazz Quartet. This concert is the last premiere for the critically-acclaimed work, If Not Now, When?, composed by Andrea Brachfeld, award-winning flutist, composer, bandleader and educator, and Bill O’Connell, pianist extraordinaire. The show is comprised of nine compositions performed by the quartet, which includes Bill O’Connell on the piano, Harvie S on the bass, and Jason Tiemann on the drums. The work has received rave reviews from critics and is made possible through the New Jazz Works Grant from Chamber Music America and the Doris Duke Foundation. Although the music has an initial form to it, the improvisational portion of the music is very different each time it is performed, with the intention of bringing joy, peace, and healing to the audience. Andrea Brachfeld was named Best Flutist by Hot House Magazine (2015) and is the recipient of Latin Jazz USA’s Chico O’Farrill Lifetime Achievement Award. “It’s all about your voice, your journey and the inner work you do in finding your voice, on a spiritual and personal level, ” says Brachfeld. “It’s about finding out who we are and translating it into the music.” Historic Flushing Town Hall (circa 1862) features year-round arts and cultural programming from all over the globe as a way to bring people together. Celebrating and educating the global communities of Queens and New York City, their tagline is: Global Arts for a Global Community. Flushing Town Hall is a member of New York City’s prestigious Cultural Institutions Group, and a Smithsonian Affiliate. They support local, immigrant, national, and international artists, developing partnerships and collaborations that enhance their efforts. Flushing Town Hall’s 40th Anniversary Challenge Flushing Town Hall has been presented with a significant challenge on the 40th anniversary season of the Flushing Council on Culture and the Arts: if the venue can raise $40, 000 in new or increased donations by February 2019, an anonymous donor will match that with another $40, 000. The challenge applies to any new or increased contributions (and not to any pre-existing financial commitments) from individuals, foundations, and businesses.
