Jazz At Lincoln Center Presents The Will Calhoun Quintet

Multiple Grammy winner Will Calhoun brings his jazz project to Lincoln Center Monday night, May 28 for two sets, 7:30 and 9:30 PM, at Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola. Calhoun is best known as the groundbreaking drummer in the band Living Colour; he has performed across multiple genres, working with everyone from Pharoah Sanders, Ron Carter, Wayne Shorter, McCoy Tyner, and other jazz greats to Public Enemy, B.B. King, the Allman Brothers and Dr. John. Calhoun is now bringing his jazz quintet to Dizzy’s Club to perform music from his latest release on Motйma Records, Celebrating Elvin Jones.

In addition to all this work in music, Will has recently broadened his artistic expression to film scores, photography and a collection of artwork crafted from rhythm titled "AZA". You can visit his online gallery at: www.willcalhounart.com. He spends most of his limited down town time in West and North Africa researching ancient rhythms and musical styles.

Will is a new breed of ethnomusicologist, combining his ancestral research with many years of commercial success in jazz, rock, urban, alternative, ambient and other musical forms.

In “Celebrating Elvin Jones, ” Will Calhoun has painted a full picture of what made Jones so special. He brilliantly captures the artistic ethos of the album's namesake while advancing his own identity. –Dan Bilawsky, allaboutjazz.com
