Bold, Brazen And Bountiful Blues

Two great artists are coming together to sing and play the blues.

World renowned blues musician, Chris Cain, and leading New Zealand blues vocalist, Erna Ferry, are teaming up for a “good time, traditional blues concert.”

“Queen of the Blues” Erna Ferry and Chris Cain have created magic before but their May/June New Zealand gigs will be the first time these stellar artists have toured together.

That their six venue North Island tour which starts at the Vic Theatre, Devonport on May 31, takes in five jazz festivals, shows how much in demand these blues legends are.

Chris Cain was a star of the 2004 and 2005 World Blues Revue and has received no less than four W.C. Handy nominations which have earned him international exposure. The Handy awards are the blues equivalent of a Grammy nomination and this recognition has seen Chris achieve headline status in the US and beyond.

He’s played with such artists as Stevie Ray Vaughan, Etta James and Delbert McClinton and been described by jazz impresario, Rodger Fox, as a “true blues musician is all senses of the word.”

“Chris plays Chicago based electric blues and is one of the top exponents of the genre in the world today, ” Rodger says.

American blues sensation, Joe Bonamassa, describes Chris as “a phenomenal player. One of the purist ones I’ve ever heard.”

Erna Ferry has strode the blues stage both in New Zealand jazz festivals, at prestigious gigs in Monterey, San Francisco, Las Vegas and Los Angeles and on the World Blues Revue. She has “great vocal styling and also plays great blues harmonica” champions the Christchurch Star.

In their North Island tour, accompanied by an all-star band, they’ll work together presenting a traditional eclectic blues concert.

Their tour starts in Auckland and includes festivals in Palmerston North, Napier, Upper Hutt, Rotorua and Wellington.
