18th Annual Central Brooklyn Jazz Festival"A Music of THE SPIRIT" Central Brooklyn Jazz Consortium announces its 18th Annual Central Brooklyn Jazz Festival, "A Music of THE SPIRIT, " April 14 - May 14, 2017. Central Brooklyn stakes it claim as an American “Jazz Capital.” Chares Tolliver and Michele Rosewoman, along with other notables, perform in NYC’s longest continuously running grassroots music series dedicated to Jazz. Nearly 50 events and more than 700 musicians expected to perform at venues throughout the borough. Festival 2017 calendar includes concerts and programs for all. A Gala Concert held at Weeksville Heritage Center, located in one of America’s oldest black communities, features the Duane Eubank Quintet. ‘A Suite For Malcolm, ’ composed by Rachiim Ausar-Sahu’s in honor of the human rights activist held at Jazz966. Brooklyn Jazz Hall of Fame™ ceremony inducts H. Mattathias Pearson and Larry Ridley into its ranks at the Brooklyn Historical Society Jazz: The Women’s Viewpoint a concert/panel discussion program acknowledging females’ contributions at Medgar Evers College. The next generation of Jazz takes the stage during a Youth Jazz Jamboree/Wellness Day contest. The ecumenical community gets into the “Music of THE SPIRIT” for a jazz vesper at Emmanuel Baptist Church featuring Benny Russell. Latin jazz lovers treated to the sounds of Dr. Mambo. Jazz and The Spoken Word features poets and musicians with/without disabilities at Brooklyn Borough Hall. Brooklyn hipsters will dig “The New Cookers” at BAMcafé. Also appearing during the eighteenth edition of the Central Brooklyn Jazz Festival are artists such as Ahmed Abdullah, Kenyatta Beasley, Dwight Brewster, Gerry Eastman, Craig Harris, Barbara King, Jeff King, Eric Lemons, and Jon Menges just to highlight a few. Over the past eighteen (18) years CBJC has presented an annual spring festival, established a Brooklyn Jazz Hall of Fame & Museum™, and produced yearly programs featuring local jazz talent. CBJC is a nonprofit corporation committed to preserving, promoting and supporting live music within the underserved communities of Brooklyn.
