Sweet Lu is the Future of Vocal Jazz Music CD Available April 21st Soulful jazz vocalist, lyricist, and composer Sweet Lu Olutosin has released a new album entitled Meet Me at the Crossroads, which contains smooth sounds and powerful lyrics. Lutalo “Sweet Lu” Olutosin is an internationally acclaimed jazz vocalist based in Atlanta, Georgia. Growing up, Olutosin was immersed in gospel music, but eventually drew his inspiration from artists such as Al Jarreau and Joe Williams. After spending 35 years in the US Military, “Colonel” Olutosin decided to focus on his passion for jazz music and become an artist exclusively. Since becoming a jazz vocalist, Sweet Lu has made an unprecedented name for himself in the music industry touring both nationally and internationally. He is known for combining aspects of Gospel, Blues, and Jazz to create a unique sound. His vocal stylings have been compared to artists such as Oscar Brown Jr., Eddie Jefferson and James Ingram. Sweet Lu and his entire production team are proud to announce the release of his third album, Meet Me at the Crossroads. He is joined on the album by pianist Tyrone Jackson, bassist Kevin Smith and drummer Henry Conerway. The album also features contributions by tenor-saxophonist Mace Hibbard, trumpeter Lester Walker and background singer Crystal Monet. The project was produced by the internationally renowned pianist and composer Donald Brown, who is also featured on a select few songs. “I never knew that I was going to be a jazz singer, but this music summoned me and I couldn’t refuse it.” explained Lu Olutosin when asked about his new album. “Music has always been a major part of my life and I’ve always felt a strong connection to it. It wasn’t until many years later that I decided to pursue my passion and take the plunge into jazz music. My latest album, Meet Me at the Crossroads really identifies me as an artist and features some of my best work.” “Meet Me at the Crossroads” features a finely balanced program of uniquely styled material and is filled with many meaningful lyrics. Songs such as Kevin Mahogany’s “Still Swingin, ” “Sister Sadie’s Blues (Intimacy Of The Blues)” and “Love You More Than You Ever Know, ” put the focus on Sweet Lu’s colorful singing style. Songs such as “How They Do That, ” “Skin Game (Granny Said It)” and “Tunji Baby”, highlight Sweet Lu’s powerful lyrics, where he explores racial understanding, social class and life obstacles. To call Sweet Lu a griot is an understatement. He is a wise sage imparting age old lessons by deftly infusing our cultural history and family values utilizing a tapestry of blues, gospel and jazz that are pure entertainment from beginning to end.
