Nadine Khouri | Brooklyn Vegan Premiere

Nadine Khouri announces I Ran Thru The Dark (To The Beat Of My Heart) 4-track digital single bundle via One Flash Records on March 31st. Later that evening Khouri will headline London’s St. Pancras Old Church with special guests TBA.

Today she shares “Away From The Noise”, one of three stunning B-sides featured on the upcoming collection via Brooklyn Vegan. The package also features the title track, a live version of “Broken Star”, and a cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “I’m On Fire”.

“Away From The Noise” was written in a remote town in Greece, recorded with musician and friend J. Allen and produced by Alan Weatherhead (Sparklehorse, Magnolia Electric Co.) at Sound of Music in Richmond, Virginia.

“I am easily overwhelmed by the noise and speed of things around me these days”, says Khouri of her inspiration for the song. "It’s an early track that didn’t make the album, but where I started exploring the atmospheric direction that eventually led to ‘The Salted Air’. It’s also a rare track where I play a (really lazy) guitar solo!”

I Ran Thru The Dark (To The Beat Of My Heart) is the follow-up to the British-Lebanese musician’s enigmatic debut LP The Salted Air (out now), a haunting and atmospheric meditation on loss and transformation produced by John Parish (PJ Harvey, Giant Sand).

Released in February 2017, the album cemented Khouri’s one-to-watch status. It and was hailed by MOJO as "A thing of dark possessed beauty” in their four-star album review, celebrated for it’s “Smoke damaged torch songs” by Q (Feb 2017 Critics Choice) and was selected as one of Rough Trade’s Albums of the Month (Jan 2017).

“I met John after a show of his in London several years ago; I'd always been a huge fan of his work. After hearing my EP, he invited me to sing on a track of his called 'Baby's Coming.’ When it came to making my album eventually, I sent him my new songs and asked if he'd be interested in producing, ” explains Khouri of their collaboration.

In addition to Parish, The Salted Air features guest contributions from Irish singer-songwriter Adrian Crowley, violinist Emma Smith (James Yorkston, Hot Chip) alongside a core band assembled by Khouri. It was recorded live by Parish & Ali Chant in the darkly-lit, vaulted basement at Toybox Studio in Bristol.

Acclaimed music photographer Steve Gullick (Nirvana, Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy) shot Khouri’s press photos and cover art. He also directed the video for “You Got A Fire”
