Award-Winning Singer-Songwriter Ellen Edwards Teams Up With Top New York Studio And Jazz Musicians To Create A New York Session.

Singer-songwriter Ellen Edwards is based in Atlanta, Georgia where she performs regularly for enthusiastic crowds and recorded her first three albums. A New York Session is a bit of a departure for her, not in quality but in geography. Country artist Suzy Bogguss, her songwriting teacher and friend, arranged for her to meet producer-keyboardist Jason Miles who was immediately enthusiastic about producing her new EP. He put together a top-notch ensemble of New York studio and jazz musicians to join Ms. Edwards on five of her new songs.

Miles, who plays synth, organ and vibes on the project, assembled an ensemble that included pianist Robbie Kondor, guitarist Jeff Mironov, bassist Will Lee, drummer Gene Lake, and percussionist Richie Morales, with the great trumpeter Randy Brecker guesting on "Let The Fire Grow."

The opener, "Over There, " is a love story that features Ellen Edwards' appealing voice singing over a samba beat that is reminiscent of Antonio Carlos Jobim. The joyful groove blends together jazz, pop and everything in between. The jazz waltz "Let The Fire Grow" has the singer sounding determined to live life to the fullest; Brecker is a strong asset on this selection. "Love Is On My Side" is about not being afraid of love. Miles' organ gives the piece a soulful gospel feel while its composer interprets the song with plenty of feeling and power. "Blue And Green, " which has sensitive piano accompaniment from Kondor, is about loss and finding hope again, about death followed by rebirth. The closing number, "Queens Bridge, " has an infectious groove and talks about rejecting false prophets and bad advice, making one's own decisions about life.

Ellen Edwards is originally from Upstate New York. She moved to Atlanta where she met and married her husband. While already a songwriter, she took time off to raise three children. She has sung and played professionally for over 20 years. In 2001 she wrote and produced her first CD, Through The Fields Of Home which has been followed by My Darling and You're The Reason.
