ASCAP award-winning vocalist Kathy Kosins, who has won the hearts of critics and fans around the globe with her eclectic musical palette that expands the rich history of jazz and soul, is excited to appear at Highline Ballroom, located at 431 W 16th Street, New York on Thursday June 21st at 8:00pm (doors 7:00pm) as part of Blue Note Jazz Festival. With the help of a talented line-up, which features David Rosenthal on guitar, Mike King on piano, Mike Piolet on drums and Chelton Grey on bass, Kosins is excited and proud to share this highly-anticipated night of music with esteemed soul/ R&B vocalist and pianist Avery* Sunshine. Tickets are $28 - $55 and are available here.

Kosins recently released her sixth album Uncovered Soul on Maristar Records. This soul-infused project which made it to #1 on the Solar Radio chart, sat at #1 on the official Indie Soul Chart for two weeks straight, was A-listed on Jazz FM UK, and was the biggest climber on the UK's Soul Connoisseurs Chart also led the Detroit-native to make her BBC debut on the Robert Elms Show. The album garnered international attention from publications including SoulTracks, All About Jazz, Jazz Journal, Jazzwise and PopMatters. Featuring a melting pot of accomplished and renowned musicians, including pianist and organist Mitch Forman, bassist Kevin Axt, drummer Eric Harland, pianist, saxophonist and producer Kamau Kenyatta (known for his work with Gregory Porter), guitarist Gregory "G-MO" Moore, trumpeter Curtis Taylor, percussionist Munyungo Jackson, vocalist Darryl Johnson, multi-instrumentalists Paul Randolph and Ed Motta, keyboardist and trumpeter Amp Fiddler, percussionist Mike Racette and pianist Glauton Campello, Uncovered Soul showcases Kosins' signature smoky voice in prime form and takes listeners on a dynamic musical journey through the sonic landscape of her native Detroit through the 1960's and 1970's. It's a well-balanced set catering to both jazz fans and soul aficionados alike, which creates a sultry mood and features her most intense and intimate singing yet.

Kathy Kosins' soulful voice, flawless phrasing and deep-rooted passion for stories and characters has been wowing audiences since she first came to prominence in the late 1980's as a background singer for Don Was and Was/Not Was. Kosins' contributions to the contemporary music scene cannot be overstated. In 1996, Kosins collaborated with both LA and New York based writers and composed a collection of jazz tunes, with the intent of selling them to already recognized jazz artists such as Dianne Reeves, Nancy Wilson and Diane Schuur. However, Michigan-based indie label Schoolkids Records discovered this repertoire, and, impressed and mesmerized by Kosins' soulful voice urged her to record and release the material under her own name. It was then that Kosins' prolific jazz career began to take shape. In 1996, Kosins debut, "All In A Dreams Work" was released and placed in the top 20 in the Gavin Report. She has shared the stage and performed with numerous names in the jazz and R&B world. A few notables are: Cyrus Chestnut, Terell Stafford, Randy Brecker, Javon Jackson, Larry Goldings, James Moody, Kevin Mahogany, Bernard Purdie, Greg Hutchinson, Eric Harland, Red Holloway, Grant Green Jr., Reuben Rogers, Reuben Wilson, Aaron Goldberg, Tamir Hendelman, Jesse Davis, Eric Marienthal, Matt Wilson, Mitch Ryder, Was/Not Was and Michael Henderson.
