DownBeat's Reader's Poll: One-Man-Indy-Progressive-Jazz Label Lands at 4th Place Jazz Label Of The Year

Dear Friends in Music

I would like to share this news with you.

My record label, brutally independent MoonJune Records, operated by no more and no less than one person only - Yours truly, and sometimes generously helped by a friend or two, has landed at the 4th place in the DownBeat's 82nd Annual Poll. DownBeat is the most prestigious Jazz magazine in the world. In 2016 MoonJune reached the 7th place in the same poll. It's an achievement for someone whose main activity is something else, while running label as a labor of love.

From bottom of my heart I would like to thank all my fans, fans of my miniature one-man-army record company, and above all, all great and multi-talented musicians on the label, specially those whose albums, released between November 1st 2016 and November 1st 2017, I promoted stubbornly and passionately in past 12 months: Dwiki Dharmawan, Mark Wingfield, Markus Reuter, Asaf Sirkis, Dusan Jevtovic, Tali Atzmon, Tohpati, Stick Men (Tony Levin, Markus Reuter, Pat Mastelotto), Machine Mass (Michel Delville, Anthony Bianco, Antoine Guenet), Yaron Stavi, as well acompanying musicians on those 2017 releases, Gilad Atzmon, Nicolas Meier, Boris Savoldelli, Aris Daryono, Peni Candrarini, Bali Jess Jeggog, Indro Hardjodikoro, Demas Narawangsa, Vasil Hadzimanov, Jennie Bliss Bennett, Frank Harrison, Enzo Zirilli.

MoonJune Records, accidentally established in 2001 by the urge to help an old friend, the legendary late Elton Dean, is an unusual rules-breaking record label, navigating in territories of progressive music exploring and expanding boundaries of Jazz, Rock, Avant, Ethno, The Unknown and Anything in Between and Beyond. Beyond genres but there is always a great dose of Jazz, and as my good friends Allan Holdsworth (R.I.P.), Alan Pasqua, Jimmy Haslip and Chad Wackerman stated in their tune on MoonJune's seminal double live album Blues For Tony, no matter what - IT MUST BE JAZZ!

Thank You all, not only those who voted for MoonJune Records as the label of 2017. I am not good with speeches, let my labels' music, the music of my friends musicians talk by itself. I am humbled by Your support.

Thank You All.
Yours truly
LEONARDO PAVKOVIC, the MoonJune guy
