Three further MPS albums will be digitally re-issued on September 22nd.
Two Records by the Rolf Kühn Group and a live Compilation recorded in 1978.

On Connection '74 you can find an impeccable ensemble play and impressive solos by all, yet Kühn's clarinet stands out. The Day After is an adventurous eclectic album with lots of space for Rolf Kühn and Phil Woods to explore. The compilation Jazz Made in Germany is a special album that gives the listener an aural glimpse into the depth of talent within the German jazz scene of the 70's.

The Rolf Kühn Group - Connection '74 //1974

If German clarinetist Rolf Kühn has not yet been designated a national treasure, he ought to be. Already a celebrated player in his home country, Kühn migrated to the USA in 1956. The next years saw him recording and playing major venues throughout the States with his own group as well as working with Benny Goodman and Tommy Dorsey's Orchestra. Since his return to Germany in 1962, his career has expanded into one of the most successful in German jazz, with music that encompasses traditional, swing, bop, fusion, and the Avante-garde. For this album, Kühn has assembled a group of international all-stars. Brother Joachim Kühn takes up electric keyboard duties, trumpet giant Randy Brecker and guitarist Toto Blanke, best known for his popular Electric Circus, are on hand, with bassist Palle Danielsson of Keith Jarrett fame, and master drummer Daniel Humair round out this amazing group. The compositions are a brotherly affair.

Line-Up: Palle Danielsson (Bass), Rolf Kühn (Clarinet), Daniel Humair (Drums), Toto Blanke (Guitar), Joachim Kühn (Piano), Randy Brecker (Trumpet)

The Rolf Kühn Group - The Day After //1972

Rolf Kühn is one of the great jazz clarinetists, a player who has mastered every jazz genre, from traditional to Avant-garde. Kühn's estimation of Phil Woods as "one of the greatest altoists in the world" is well grounded. Known as the "New Bird" (after Charlie "Bird" Parker), he won Downbeat's readers' poll as top altoist some two dozen times. Kühn and Woods knew each other's playing well, having worked together in the late 50's in New York. Rolf's brother, the lauded pianist Joachim Kühn, is on hand, as is famed Brazilian percussionist Nana Vasconcelos, best known for his work with Don Cherry and Codona. Drummer Oliver Johnson spent a decade with Steve Lacy's band. He and bassist Peter Warren had often worked together, so the rhythm section was in secure hands.

Line-Up: Phil Woods (Alto Saxophone), Peter Warren (Bass), Rolf Kühn (Clarinet), Oliver Johnson (Drums), Nana Juvenal Vasconcelos (Percussion, Berimbau), Joachim Kühn (Piano)

You Better Fly Away - Clarinet Summit //1981
