Bassist John Menegon - "Blew By Blues" - Dot Time Records

John Menegon's "Quartet East" recording, "Blew By Blues, " consists of six original compositions, as well as songs by Charlie Haden and Ornette Coleman. The recording is a collective undertaking that embodies the similarities shared through improvisation, allowing a common thread that weaves together the present and the past. "Blew By Blues" encourages the listener to grab onto the music as it passes by, and to take part in the playful dance that is brought to life throughout the recording (released March 9, 2017).

1. Blew By Blues | 2. First Touch | 3. Hymn For Charlie | 4. Lonely Heartache | 5. The Good Life | 6. Nice Eyes | 7. Our Spanish Love Song | 8. One and Only | 9. Devonian Lilt.

Menegon worked for several years on the Canadian jazz scene before moving to New York City in the mid-80s to study Jazz at Long Island University on a full scholarship.

Since then John has performed and recorded with many jazz legends, and was an integral member of the Dewey Redman Quartet and the David "Fathead" Newman Quintet for the last ten years of their lives. He has played and/or recorded with Matt Wilson, John Hicks, Jack DeJohnette, Kenny Burrell, Kenny Barron, Paul Bley, Al Foster, Joe Lovano, Pat Metheny, and many others.

As well as leading his own bands, John is an active, in-demand sideman on the New York jazz scene. Menegon is currently teaching in the Jazz Department at SUNY New Paltz (New Paltz, NY). He has created and taught Jazz Workshops on the music of Jaco Pastorius, Miles Davis, and Charles Mingus at Williams College (Williamstown, MA). He has also taught master classes at Jazz Festivals around the world.

In 2014, Menegon's 4th release as a bandleader, "I Remember You, " received a four-star review in Downbeat Magazine. His 2017 release "Blew By Blues" is even more powerful, passionate and fulfilling.
