Will Calhoun Releases "Сelebrating Elvin Jones" At The Blue Note

Two-Time Grammy winner Will Calhoun is proud to announce the release party for his new album, Celebrating Elvin Jones (Motema Music). Calhoun will celebrate his hero Elvin Jones - the drumming genius best known for his work with Charles Mingus, Miles Davis and John Coltrane - with three of Jones' former musicians. Jones' alumni playing with Calhoun include: bassist Gerald Cannon, pianist Carlos McKinney and saxophonist Antoine Roney. In addition each night will feature a different, very special guest playing with Calhoun and his quartet.

January 24: Ravi Coltrane
January 25: Randy Brecker
January 26: Russell Malone

Will Calhoun is the much-decorated drummer best known for his work with Living Colour. His critically acclaimed jazz career has taken him around the world, so it is only natural that he takes it all the way back home to his roots in New York City, with a salute to the maestro, Elvin Jones. Jones' mastery of timing, polyrhythms, dynamics, timbre and legato phrasing brought the drum set to the foreground of the jazz ensemble. Jones was touted by Life Magazine as "the world's greatest rhythmic drummer." His free-flowing style was a major influence on Will, along with many other drumming greats.

Shows are at 8 and 10:30PM at the Blue Note, 131 West 3rd St. Greenwich Village.
