| Dick Hyman & Trio Da Paz Headline Highlights In Jazz Season Finale Jack Kleinsinger's Highlights In Jazz, New York's longest running jazz concert series, concludes its 44th season on Thursday June 16th with the presentation Trio Time, a fabulous double bill bringing together the classic jazz of the Dick Hyman Trio with guitarist Howard Alden and bassist Jay Leonhart and the exciting Brazilian sounds of Trio da Paz, featuring Duduka Da Fonseca, on drums and percussion Romero Lubambo on guitar and Nilson Matta on bass. Plus, as in all Highlights In Jazz concerts, a surprise special guest. The show will take place on Thursday, June 16, 2016 at 8 pm at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center of Borough of Manhattan Community College, 199 Chambers Street, NY, NY 10007. The fourth and final concert of the 2016 season, Trio Time, brings together two of the most multi-talented trios in the world of jazz today in an unusual double bill that is sure to produce some of the best music of the season. Pianist Dick Hyman, at 89 years old, remains one of the most versatile and vibrant pianists in music today. His command of a wide range of styles, from ragtime to avant garde and vast repertoire has led him to be described as "a virtual encyclopedia of the history of jazz piano." In a career spanning over seven decades, Hyman has performed with everyone from Benny Goodman to Charlie Parker to Woody Allen. A perennial Highlights headliner and recipient of the 1988 Annual Highlights In Jazz Award (presented every year since 1974 to honor a singular living jazz musician for their "matchless musical achievements."), Hyman will be making his 23rd appearance on the series. Filling out the unit will be two more Highlights In Jazz regulars, bassist Jay Leonhart and guitarist Howard Alden. Kleinsinger notes, "Dick was the first keyboard artist we ever had. He played organ and piano on our second concert back in 1973 and we've had him many, many times since. He's a favorite and if he lived in New York we'd have him even more often." Hyman, who now resides in Florida, is also looking forward to the engagement. He says, "I am really pleased to be returning to Jack Kleinsinger's concert series. I played on one of his very first productions centuries ago. And to be reunited with the guys who have done so many shows with me—Howard Alden and Jay Leonhart—is a special treat. We are the Trio, and I look forward to being with Howard and Jay and playing for the special audience that comes to Jack's concerts." Filling out the program will be Trio da Paz, the critically acclaimed Brazilian threesome of drummer / percussionist Duduka Da Fonseca, guitarist Romero Lubambo and bassist Nilson Matta, now in their thirtieth year together as a unit. Making their fourth Highlights In Jazz appearance the unit has captured the hearts of the Highlights audiences with their alluring mix of bossa nova and samba with contemporary and classic jazz. Kleinsinger notes, "They're a unique group and we're happy to have them with us again." Lubambo is also looking forward to returning. "We play for jazz audiences all over the world and they love our music, so it's going to be great to play again for that special group of listeners here in New York." As on all Highlights In Jazz concerts, the band will be joined by a special surprise guest chosen from among the music's finest players. Some of the biggest stars in jazz who have appeared as special guests in previous years have been Eubie Blake, Cab Calloway, Dizzy Gillespie, Earl Hines, Branford Marsalis, Carmen McRae, Gerry Mulligan, George Shearing and many others. With another successful season soon to be behind him Kleinsinger is already planning next year's programs. The veteran producer proclaims, "We've defined our audience and their taste and I try to give them what they want. It's been successful for us and I'm not about to stop doing it. I like round numbers, so if I do decide to retire, 45 sounds better than 44. We'll definitely be back in 2017 with another round of great music."
