True Flight: Victor Rendón & Bronx Conexión Latin-Jazz Big Band New CD & Performance Residency

The Bronx Conexión is a driving 21-piece Latin-Jazz Big Band lead by NYC percussionist, composer/arranger, and educator - Victor Rendón. The ensemble, with its home base at Lehman College in the Bronx, brings a group of veteran musicians with a wide variety of experience in the field. The Bronx Conexión keeps the tradition of Tito Puente, Machito, Mario Bauza, among others. The group has played at the Johnny Pacheco Latin Music & Jazz Festival and regularly performs various functions at Lehman College and elsewhere. The band has held a residency at the famed Nuyorican Poets Café since September 2014 playing every 2nd Tuesday of the month.

The band's strength and identity lies within its contemporary original compositions and arrangements by various members in the band.

The bands debut CD release, "True Flight" is scheduled for April 12, 2016.

Starting with Victor Rendón's compositions (arranged by Joe Mannozzi), "Café Sin Leche" and "True Flight", the listener is treated to New York mambo style writing and touches of timba.

"La Buena Gente", composed by Wilson "Chembo" Corniel & Frank Fontaine brings heavy mambo style percussive sounds that will put your ears on the edge.

Trombonist, composer/arranger/educator- Rick Faulkner has brought a broad range of original compositions starting with:

"Lagos" – a bembé featuring our percussion section on güiro style and batá.

"Generoso" - a swinging mambo in the style of Beny Moré

"Oriente" – another swinging tune featuring Jessica Valiente on flute, Chris Stelluti on tenor sax, Joe Mannozi on piano, and Johnny "Dandy" Rodriguez on bongos.

In addition, we have "Island Woman", with a Brazilian groove, featuring the voice of Cascadú and the tenor sax sounds of Lou Marini Jr.

Cascadú is also featured on the Bob Marley tune, "No Woman, No Cry" with a unique percussion arrangement making use of the Afro-Peruvian rhythm – Landó.

With special guests, Claudio Roditi, Johnny Rodríguez, Lew Tabackin, Lou Marini Jr., and its original compositions/arrangments, this recording is sure to bring many interesting and joyful sounds to the listener.
