Andrea Brachfeld “Lotus Blossom” CD Release Party

The award-winning flutist Andrea Brachfeld will celebrate the release of her new CD "Lotus Blossom" at Zeb's Place, 223 West 28th Street in New York City on Wednesday, October 28th. The CD has been released by Jazzheads, a New York based independent label.

Flutist Andrea Brachfeld is on a roll. First, she has been performing regularly with many different ensembles including recent performances at the International Havana Jazz Festival, the Mid-Atlantic Flute Fair and the Sounds of Summer Concert Series in Jersey City.

Then there is the release of her newest CD "Lotus Blossom" on the New York based independent label Jazzheads, which features Bill O'Connell on piano. Rufus Reid on bass and Winard Harper on drums. The CD includes both original tunes plus classics by Herbie Mann, Billy Strayhorn and George Shearing. Special guest artists include Wycliffe Gordon, Chembo Corniel and Nancy Harms. A celebration of the release of Ms. Brachfeld's newest CD will take place at Zeb's Place in New York City on October 28 at 8:00 p.m. Reservations are suggested.

And to cap off a great year, on Wednesday, September 16, she received the Hot House Jazz Award as Jazz Flutist of the Year. The ceremony, which took place at the Metropolitan Club, honors fan favorites in several categories including specific instruments and various ensembles. Hot House Jazz Magazine is the oldest jazz publication in New York and launched this tradition of honoring new and established musicians a few years ago.

While this is the first year she has won the Hot House Jazz Award, Andrea Brachfeld is no stranger to honors and awards. As a young student in 1974, she was awarded the Louis Armstrong Award for outstanding jazz student. Upon graduating from the Manhattan School of Music, she began a career that has taken her all over the world and enabled her to perform with many great musicians including Tito Puente, Ray Barretto, Machito, Hubert Laws, Paquito D'Rivera, Wallace Roney, Hilton Ruiz and many others. As an artist, she has received the "Chico O'Farrill Lifetime Achievement Award" from Latin Jazz USA, the "Pionero Award" for her contribution to Latin music and "Tribute to the Charanga Flutes" in 2012.

"Lotus Blossom" is on the Jazzheads label and can be ordered through Amazon, Jazzheads or iTunes. Zeb's Place is located at 223 West 28th Street in New York. Reservations for the October 28th CD Release Party are suggested and tickets are only $10.00; call 212-695-8081. The quartet will perform two sets, joined by Wycliffe Gordon on brass and Chembo Corniel on congas and percussion.
