Nicolas Meier with Jimmy Haslip & Vinnie Colaiuta - new album coming out in 2016

Dear Friends in Music

Please let me reintroduce to You one of my favorite musicians today - Nicolas Meier. The ever smiling Nicolas, fabulous guitar player who was personally referred to me 5.5 years ago by none other than the drum legend, the great Bill Bruford, garnering his highest recommendation. In meantime Nicolas became a very dear friend and finally we started collaborating together. I have just arrived from Los Angeles where Nicolas has recorded material for his ground-breaking new studio album at the MegaTrax Studios on September 19 and 20, under the auspices of MoonJune Music, before his departure to Japan with Jeff Beck. The core trio includes Nicolas on acoustic guitar and glissentar, fusion icon Jimmy Haslip on bass, and the otherworldly timekeeping of Vinnie Colaiuta on drums. The album will feature a number of special guests and surprises, and should witness even more new directions from the fresh, innovative, chameleon-like musical stylings of Meier.

THE ALBUM IS COMING OUT IN THE SPRING/SUMMER OF 2016.

Nicolas Meier is a multi-genre virtuoso guitarist of Swiss descent, who relocated to the UK back around the start of the new millennium. Specializing in acoustic, electric and synth guitars has presented a diversity of musical opportunities for him, as Nicolas leads several projects: the Nicolas Meier Group (an ethno-jazz unit, featuring MoonJune associated artists Asaf Sirkis and Gilad Atzmon) and Seven7, a progressive metal band. He is also half of a critically-acclaimed guitar duo with British jazz guitar master, Pete Oxley, and for the past three years has been a full-time member of the legendary guitar god Jeff Beck's band. (Nicolas is one of only two players to serve as second guitarist for Jeff Beck in the last 30 years; the other being Jennifer Batten.) In addition to his busy, active schedule as a working musician (on average he performs over 150 shows per year), he also runs his own record label, MGP Records.

There are a multitude of styles, influences and genres from which he draws. In addition to the aforementioned jazz, fusion, rock and metal projects in which he is involved, Nicolas has displayed an uncanny musical fluency in Classical, Flamenco, Turkish, Balkan, Tango and Arabic music. Nicolas Meier is a Godin endorsee - playing an array of their guitars, including the 11-string glissentar. His most recent recordings include: the latest Oxley-Meier effort, the fabulous "Chasing Tales"; last year's "The Follower" by Seven7, and; an amazing live CD and DVD release, performing with Jeff Beck Group. Nicolas also contributed on several songs of a session with MoonJune's artist, Indonesian pianist Dwiki Dharmawan, recorded in June 2015 (the album, "Pasar Klewer", featuring also Mark Wingfield, Gilad Atzmn, Yaron Stavi, Asaf Sirkis, Boris Savoldelli and Aris Daryono) is slated for a Spring 2016 release.

Yours in Music
