Maverick Concerts: Jazz at the Maverick, Eldar Djangirov Trio, July 18th

Maverick Concerts, the oldest continuous professional summer chamber music festival in America, announces a concert by the Eldar Djangirov Trio on Saturday, July 18, at 8:00 p.m. All Maverick concerts are held in the historic concert hall, 120 Maverick Road, Woodstock, N.Y. 12498. The hall was hand-built in 1916 in a woodland glade just two miles from the center of town. Eldar and his trio (Jose Armando Gola on bass and Ludwig Afonso on drums) perform a repertoire that includes original material as well as covers ranging from the Great American Songbook to Radiohead.

About the Players
Born in 1987 in Kyrgyzstan, in the former Soviet Union, Eldar Djangirov came to this country with his family when he was ten and settled in Kansas City. Eldar was featured on NPR's Marian McPartland's Piano Jazz at the age of twelve, and was nominated for a Grammy in 2008 for his album Re-imagination. Eldar has appeared at numerous major jazz festivals and has toured extensively throughout North America, Europe, and Asia. He has performed at venues from the Hollywood Bowl to Carnegie Hall and has played at the most notable jazz venues around the world. Eldar has been seen on national TV including the 2000 and 2008 Grammy Award shows, Late Night with Conan O'Brien, CBS's Early Show, and Jimmy Kimmel Live, and has played with world-renowned symphony orchestras.

Dave Brubeck praised Eldar as "a genius beyond most young people I've heard, " and Downbeat magazine stated that "his command of his instrument is beyond staggering." With his compositional brilliance, harmonic and lyrical sensibility, and formidable technique, he has been compared with Art Tatum, Oscar Peterson, Herbie Hancock, McCoy Tyner, and Bill Evans.

Along with his trio, Eldar has recorded four critically acclaimed jazz albums, and has also issued a classical solo piano album, Bach/Brahms/Prokofiev, that showcases his unique interpretations of well-known classics.

Havana native Jose Armando Gola has played bass since the age of thirteen. He has performed at most of the important jazz festivals of the world. Now in his mid-twenties, Gola has appeared on numerous Grammy-winning and -nominated albums. He has performed and recorded with major jazz artists and has toured with the supergroup Volcan.
