Newport Gulls Host Newport Festivals Foundation Folk & Jazz Night

Two of America's favorite pastimes – music and baseball – come together to celebrate an evening of family fun and local partnerships when the Newport Festivals Foundation hosts Folk and Jazz Night at the Newport Gulls vs. Danbury Westerners game at Cardines Field on Friday, July 10, at 6:35 pm.

"We are proud to be a part of the Newport family for the past 61 years and we're looking forward to getting together with area baseball fans when we present Folk and Jazz Night at historic Cardines Field, " said George Wein, chairman of the Newport Festivals Foundation, which produces the Folk and Jazz Festivals. "There are few things more American than baseball combined with jazz and folk music, and we're excited to celebrate our community partnerships at this special family event."

Joining Newport Festivals Foundation at Folk and Jazz Night will be the Newport Boys & Girls Club, Salve Regina University and other area friends. The Foundation is the proud sponsor of the Newport County Boys and Girls Club music programs, enabling the Club to offer music programming at the Florence Gray Center Clubhouse, Church Street Clubhouse and at the Summer Camp at Camp Grosvenor. The Newport Festivals Foundation also partners with Salve Regina University, University of Rhode Island, Roger Williams University and other institutions to present concerts, workshops, master classes and field trips to the festivals. July 25 - August 1, music students can attend The Jazz Camp in Newport, sponsored by Salve Regina and URI. In addition, the Foundation presents free workshops and concerts for area students on International Jazz Day in April and a free family concert, this year on Wednesday, July 29, featuring Guy Davis and Eli Yamin at Fort Adams State Park.
