2015 Jazz Journalists Association Soprano Sax of the Year, Jane Ira Bloom appears at The Falcon for the first time with her quartet for an evening of ballads & beyond. "The poet of the soprano saxophone" long known for the intense lyricism, breath and allure of her sound, has put together an evening from the American songbook and her original repertoire. Her latest release "Sixteen Sunsets" was nominated for a 2014 Grammy Award.

Bloom has been developing her unique voice on the soprano sax for over 30 years. Her continuing commitment to "push the envelope" has led to collaborations with jazz artists Kenny Wheeler, Charlie Haden, Rufus Reid, Matt Wilson, Bobby Previte and Fred Hersch. She's an eight-time winner of the Jazz Journalists Award for Soprano Saxophone, 2014 Downbeat Critics Poll for soprano sax and recipient of the prestigious Guggenheim fellowship. Her music is lyrical and provocative.

"...one of the most gorgeous tones and hauntingly lyrical ballad conceptions of any soprano saxophonist"
-Kevin Whitehead, Pulse

"Bloom's tone is a sonic wonder; crystal clear like a full moon on a starless night"
- George W. Harris, jazzweekly.com
