Kendrick Scott Oracle To Preview Blue Note Debut With March US Tour

Kendrick Scott Oracle, the acclaimed quintet led by drummer and composer Kendrick Scott, will release their Blue Note Records debut this summer. Next week Oracle will head out on a U.S. tour previewing the material from the new album, kicking off March 2 at Jazz Alley in Seattle and including stops in Scott's hometown of Houston, as well as San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York City. The forthcoming album features Kendrick on drums, John Ellis on saxophone, Michael Moreno on guitar, Taylor Eigsti on piano, and Joe Sanders on bass. For the upcoming tour Oracle will have Walter Smith III on saxophone and Aaron Goldberg on piano.

Kendrick was born in Houston, Texas, and attended the city's famed High School for the Performing and Visual Arts whose alumni also includes Jason Moran and Robert Glasper. This past Fall, Kendrick was a part of the Blue Note 75th Anniversary supergroup Our Point Of View which included Glasper, Ambrose Akinmusire, Derrick Hodge, Lionel Loueke, and Marcus Strickland. He is perhaps best known as the drummer of the renowned Terence Blanchard Quintet, and has been featured on several of the trumpeter's Blue Note albums including Flow (2005), A Tale Of God's Will (2007), and Magnetic (2013). Kendrick has released three albums as a bandleader including two with Oracle: The Source (2006) and Conviction (2013).
