Jazzfest Bonn 2015

Living legends and a devil's fiddler - In it's sixth festival year Jazzfest Bonn offers ten double feature concerts: between the 7th and 16th May 2015 international stars such as the violin virtuoso Nigel Kennedy, the guitarist Pat Martino, the singer Lizz Wright and the percussionist Marilyn Mazur follow each other. National acts, amongst them Ulita Knaus, the Anke Helfrich Trio and newcomers such as the Julia Kadel Trio complete the programme. The ticket sale for the concerts, which have sold out quickly in the past, starts on Friday the 28.11.2014. The question of quality is at the forefront for artistic director Peter Materna when composing the programme: "We are specifically proud to have won Nigel Kennedy with such an exciting project for Bonn – but we are hugely looking forward to all other artists just as much. It is a well rounded beautiful programme, which holds a special treat for every jazz lover".

Jazzfest 2015 will be opened by the Pat Martino Trio on Thursday, 7th May 2015 in the Post Tower. Pat Martino, who had to take up playing the guitar anew again after a brain surgery in the 1980s, astounds, for the second time in his life, musical laymen as well as experts with perfect technique. The second part of the opening evening is performed by jazz singer Ulita Knaus, who will play excerpts from her current album 'The Moon on my Doorstep'.

During the following days strong-voiced jazz musicians from Germany and abroad, as well as virtuoso guitarists and trumpeters will dominate. A special highlight will be Lizz Wright, who will interpret compositions between jazz, gospel, blues, soul and pop. The Peter Evans – Zebulon Trio, which will play two days later at Brotfabrik, is amongs the most innovative forces within the New York jazz scene. Marilyn Mazur, who became internationally known in the 1980s by the side of Miles Davis, will perform in Bundeskunsthalle with her Celestial Circle. Further fascinating artists are the Franco Ambrosetti Sextet, featuring Terri Lyne Carrington and Greg Osby, the Norbert Gottschalk Quintett, the Wolfgang Muthspiel Trio with Larry Grenadier and Jorge Rossy, the Hanno Busch Trio or the WDR Big Band together with French trumpeter Eric Truffaz.

At the festival final on Saturday 16th May, the punk amongst the classical violinists, Nigel Kennedy, will introduce his new Jimi Hendrix project. The exceptional violinist dedicates himself to the music of Jimi Hendrix since the 1990s – now he has revised the programme fundamentally and will present it to a larger audience at the Telekom Forum for the first time.
